English I-Honors

Welcome to English I-Honors.  I am excited about the prospect of teaching you this semester in an English course that will focus on different types of literature.  Commit yourself now to diligence and hard work and the semester will be successful.  You are responsible for you, so make the most of now and consequently the future. 

Writing and reading are core components of this course, both in class and at home.  If you are not willing to read and write outside of class, honors is not the course for you.  The objectives and standards for this class require much more outside work than a standard course.  Decide now what path you will take and make a pact to stick with it. 

English I is a required course for all freshman in < xml="true" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" prefix="st1" namespace="">North Carolina.  All of your knowledge will be tested at the end of the semester with the 9^th Grade End-of-Course exam, held on June 2, 2008.  In order to pass this class, you must pass the EOC.

Materials Needed Daily

• “Marble” 100-page composition book/daybook
• Minimum of two (2) SHARPENED pencils at all times
• Black/blue pen
• Your PERSONAL roll of scotch tape
• Highlighters

Extra Credit Materials

I ask that each student bring AT LEAST one of the following for the entire class to use.  Each item will count for extra credit. 

• Scotch tape*
• Post-It Notes*
• Highlighters
• Pack of notebook paper
• Clorox wipes
• Germ-X
• Ink cartridges*

Grading Policy

• Daily work(quizzes, homework, etc.):  30%
• Major grades(tests, projects, etc.):  30%
• Writing(personal, essays, papers, etc.):  30%
• Participation(prepared for class, active in class, respectfulness) 10%
